Syn.: polysolve. Any one of a series of thick syrupy liquids of a yellow or brown color, obtained from various fixed oils, especially from castor oil, olive oil, and rapeseed oil, by the action of concentrated sulphuric acid. They dissolve very many substances which are insoluble in water, but they decompose above 110 C. Their extended medicinal use has been shown to be highly objectionable.
