A Danish poet and dramatist; born in Kongsberg, Norway, Dec. 27, 1791; died in Copenhagen, July 6, 1853. He was a clergyman who wrote anonymously for the stage, becoming "Denmark's great unknown" upon the appearance of "Juta, Queen of Denmark", "King Sigurd", and other plays, of which only "William Shakespeare" continues on the boards. His "There Is a Beautiful Country in the Far North" has become a national favorite hymn.
