A subÂacute febrile disease of cattle, transmissible to man by contagion or infection; characterized by aphthous stomatitis accompanied by a vesicular cutaneous eruption, the latter being the most constant in the neighborhood of the hoofs. In children, in whom it is due to the use of milk from cows suffering with it, there are present aphthous stomatitis, digestive disorder, and a vesicular eruption on the face and hands, and sometimes between the toes. When the vesicles dry up, they leave brownish scales.
