Seven buildings were included under this title-the Egyptian pyramids, the temple of Artemis at Ephesus, the Colossus of Rhodes, the hanging gardens of Babylon, the mausoleum of Artemisia, the statue of the Olympian Zeus by Pheidias, and the Rhodian pharos or watch-tower. There is no doubt that the number was suggested by that of the wise men, or of the stars of the Great Bear. See The Seven Rishis.
