(Eccl. Hist.) The followers of Nestorius, Patriarch of Constantinople, in the fifth century, who forbade men to entertain any combined notion of the divine and human nature in Christ. Nestorius was opposed in the Council of Ephesus, A.D. 431, by Cyril of Alexandria. His opinions spread far Eastwards; in the West they were met by the opposite theories of Eutyches. See Eutychians ; Monophysites; Monothelites.
