South African plants, are much used as domestic remedies at the Cape. The expressed juice of the leaves acts as an astringent in dysentery, and as a mild diuretic. It is also used as an antiseptic gargle in malignant sore throat, violent salivation and aphthae, and as a lotion to burns and scalds.
