A German student of English speech; born at Oberglogau in Upper Silesia, Jan. 4, 1844; died July 6, 1895, at Berlin, where he was professor of English language and literature in the university. Among his works are: "Introduction to the Study of Middle High German" (1868); "Exercise Book of Old and Middle English" (1874); "Alfric's Grammar and Glossary" (1850); "Specimens of All the Accessible Unprinted MSS. of the Canterbury Tales" (1890).
