A German dramatist; born in Driesen, Feb. 4, 1847. He has produced a wide variety of pieces, as "Caius Gracchus" and "Danton", tragedies; "Euphrosyne", "Phryne", and "Aspasia", spectacular plays; and several one-act "curtain-raisers". His most brilliant effects have been obtained with historical love-stories. He has produced a volume of miscellaneous poetry and a historical novel of merit.
