A Spanish poet and dramatist; born at Guadix, about 1570; died at Madrid, 1635. He was court chaplain at Granada, and afterward chaplain of honor to Philip IV. at Madrid. Calderon and Corneille borrowed from his works. A few of his lyrics can be seen in Vol. xiii., five of his plays in Vol. xiv., of Rivadeneyra's "Library of Spanish Authors".
