LIVER, NUTMEG
\lˈɪvə], \lˈɪvə], \l_ˈɪ_v_ə]\
Sort: Oldest first
-
An appearance of the liver when cut across, resembling that of the section of a nutmeg, Myristicatio hepatis, supposed by some to be the result of intemperance in the use of alcoholic drinks; but occurring under other causes. The terms whisky liver, gin-drinkers' liver, and gin liver, occasionally applied to it, are, consequently, not distinctive.
