The odour of this plant, the leaves of which are used in medicine, is strongly narcotic, and the taste bitter. They ire narcotic, diuretic, and aperient; and have been used in dropsies. Lactuca elongata, Wild Lettuce of the United States, has been employed for L. virosa.
