A noted American lecturer on religious and social topics; born at Ticonderoga, N. Y., Jan. 26, 1838; died there June 25, 1901. He carried on the Monday lectureship in Boston (1874-80); was in Europe and Asia in 1880-82, resuming the lectures in Boston in 1883. His published works include: "Boston Monday Lectures" (10 vols., 1877); "Current Religious Perils, with Other Addresses". In 1888 he founded Our Day, a monthly reform magazine.
