from 'thirst.' said to be so called, owing to the leaves being so placed as to hold water. Cultivated Teasel, (F.) Cardere. Ord. Dipsaceae. The roots of this European plant are diuretic and sudorific. The water, which collects at the base of the leaves, has been recommended as an eye-water.
