A resinous substance brought from the East Indies, South America, and the western coast of Africa, which flows spontaneously from Elaeocarpus Capalliferus, Vateria Indica,and probably from different species of Hymenaea. Ord. Leguminosae. It is a stimulant like all the resins, and, dissolved in rectified spirits of wine, has been used in cases of spongy gums and looseness of the teeth; but it is now only employed in varnishes.
