The Autocode for the Ferranti Atlas, whichmay have been the first commercial computer withhardware-paged virtual memory. Whereas other autocodeswere basically assembly languages, Atlas Autocode washigh-level and block-structured, resembling a cross betweenFortran and ALGOL 60. It had call-by value, loops, declarations, complex numbers, pointers, heap andstack storage generators, dynamic arrays, and extensiblesyntax.
